For Chicago natives Parker and Anastasia from the parker Story, love and music have always intertwined. Growing up and meeting each other other in Chicago, Parker and Anastasia had always had a huge connection to to the city. They both stated, “…the city brought us together and we became a duo before the music. Chicago will always be a part of our sound.”
Maybe it’s this connection to their past that leans so well into the nostalgia of FYBF (Forever Your Best Friend), their single released in July 2023. The track talks of a past friendship and listening to Blink-182, reminiscing of what seems like simpler times. Something that any listener can relate to. For Parker, that Blink-182 reference is very close to home. He says, “Mostly everything written lyrically in ‘FYBF’ is true. I used to walk around town with a bass guitar everywhere I went for an entire summer when I first heard Blink-182’s ‘Carousel’ from their debut studio album Cheshire Cat.” Anastasia sums up FYBF by saying, “It’s about driving around in a BMW when my best friend first got their license and then, them going off to college to start a ‘normal’ life.”
It’s not just the nostalgia and callbacks to simpler, uncomplicated times that will have you humming along to FYBF as both Parker and Anastasia from the parker story are accomplished musicians and it shows. (They write, record and produce all their tracks as well.) Pulling from inspiration like 9x Grammy award winner Rick Rubin and legendary David Byrne for this track, Parker said that they layered melodies over synths to help create FYBF. Then, “we started cutting and plugging in different measures until it felt like we had a fun linear arrangement.” After that, the parker story said, “We drove around listening to a kick ass instrumental version of it for weeks before heading back to the piano to write the song’s lyrics.”
There’s a lot of excitement in store for the parker story, from joining an artists’ development firm based out of NY to releasing a new single every month and booking shows! The parker story are fully motivated and ready to take on their next journey. And they want you to know it! “We get that music is subjective and our sound won’t appeal to everyone that hears us on our musical journey, but we’re still gonna be super annoying and post content and keep releasing music and playing shows as much as we can.” But that’s exactly what it takes to get out there, isn’t it?
With a wholesome way of looking back on the past on FYBF and a motivated spirit towards the future. Following along the parker story’s musical journey will be one that will be fun to watch! Plus, they said, “We promise to show minimal signs of social anxiety and talk and meet everyone at our shows and have some fun.” So fans – you can always hold them to this promise!
